A magnificent and substantial antique Art Nouveau candlestick, originally created as an oil lamp base, by the renowned English pottery Wardle & Co. (c.1899-1935). This stunning piece features a rich, iridescent teal-blue glaze and is beautifully decorated with tube-lined shamrocks and flowing, organic forms. Weighing over 1.8kg, it is a true statement piece of British Art Pottery.
Its impressive size and captivating lustre make it a must-have for any collector of Art Nouveau ceramics. Marked 'WARDLE ENGLAND' to the base.
Condition: Good antique condition. No major chips or cracks were observed. The glaze is vibrant with a strong iridescent sheen. There is a network of fine crazing throughout the glaze, which is typical for pottery of this age. There is a hole in the side of the base, indicating its original function as an oil lamp base.
