The Swiss Family Robinson - F. Warne Antique Prize Book (c.1918)

Description: An antique edition of Johann David Wyss's classic adventure story, "The Swiss Family Robinson, or, Adventures in a Desert Island". This beautifully bound hardback was published by Frederick Warne & Co., London, as part of their popular "Incident & Adventure Library" series, likely dating to the early 20th century or late 19th century.

It features a striking pictorial cloth cover in terracotta brown, elaborately decorated with black designs and gilt lettering on the front and spine. The title page states the edition includes "Eight Page Illustrations and Coloured Frontispiece" (Illustrations presumed present, condition variable). The book was printed by the renowned Dalziel Brothers press.

A lovely piece of history is added by a neat handwritten inscription on the front endpaper: "Alice Sealy, Prize for Music, 24/12/18." - dating its presentation to Christmas Eve, 1918.

• Cover: Fair to Good condition for its age. The decorative cloth binding is bright but shows rubbing, particularly to the gilt on the spine decoration. Corners are bumped and rubbed, with some minor board exposure. Spine ends show fraying and wear. There is general age-related soiling/darkening to the cloth.
• Binding: Feels generally intact, but handle with care as hinges may be tender.
• Pages: Pages are significantly tanned throughout due to age. Noticeable foxing (age spots) is present, especially on endpapers and title page. The text block appears complete. The prize inscription is clear. Condition of internal illustrations may vary.
