Description: An authentic antique desk accessory from the early 20th century. This is a combined letter rack and pen tray made by Paragon, featuring a heavy moulded clear glass base with a trough for pens and a coiled wire spring rack for holding letters or notes. The glass base is clearly embossed "PARAGON PAT. AUG. 20. 18." confirming its patent date of August 20th, 1918. An original (though worn) paper label reading "LETTER RACK + PEN TRAY PATENTED 1918 U.S.A." is also present.
A fascinating and functional piece of early office equipment history.
Condition:
- Glass Base: Structurally sound but shows general signs of age including some cloudiness/dustiness. The patent marking is clear. **Important Note:** There is a noticeable chip/flea bite on one lower corner edge of the glass base (clearly visible in photos).
- Wire Rack: The coiled wire spring is complete and retains its intended shape, but shows significant surface oxidation/tarnish consistent with its age.
- Label: The original paper label is present but is worn, discoloured, and partially detached.
Appeal: Collectible for those interested in antique desk accessories, office history, or items with specific patent dates. Its value is significantly impacted by the chip on the glass.
